A Pet Leash for the Other End - When Your Dog Needs a Lift, Try the Bottom's Up Leash

Bath towels could become the slings of the past for your arthritic, injured, or aging dog. The Bottom's Up Leash encircles the dog's backside with nylon-webbing straps, allowing you to gently lift the dogs weight off of their hind legs and hips when walking, climbing stairs, or during those private moments.

Watson's Pet Company now offers the Bottom's Up Leash, a U.S. Patented dog leash (dog harness) to customers with dogs (or cats) that suffer from hip dysplasia, arthritis, or any other problem affecting the use of their back legs.

According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) 2001-2002 National Pet Owners Survey, there are roughly 68 million dogs within the United States, many of which will be afflicted with some sort degenerative hip problem such as hip dysplasia, arthritis, etc. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals indicates that hip dysplasia alone can affect as many as 50% to 75% of the dogs within certain breeds such as Bulldogs and Pugs. In general, about one-fifth of all dogs will suffer from hip dysplasia as they enter their senior years and this product directly addresses this sort problem.

The leash, which adjusts to fit all sizes, comes only in red because the first customer a mixed-breed named Watson, "looked great in red," says inventor Arnie Costell.

The Bottom's Up Leash was born out of a labor of love (in November 2002) for a dog named "Watson" who was afflicted with arthritis when he was 15. The company offers numerous products geared towards assisting geriatric pets, the fastest growing segment of the pet industry. The Bottoms Up Leash and other senior pet products are offered by the company via a network of informative pet related websites, including, http://www.BottomsUpLeash.com, http://www.WatsonsPetRamps.com, and http://www.SeniorPetProducts.com and via offline channels such as catalogs, pet retailers, and vet clinics.
