Spinning is good for Yogis says Yoga Journal and YAS founder Kimberly Fowler.

At first, the high energy spirit of a Spinning class may seem about as good for a yogi as a bacon-eating contest would be for a heart disease patient. But yogis looking to add oomph to their daily routine can greatly benefit from Spinning, just as cyclists can improve their overall fitness through asana practice"

What yoga brings to Spinning: It lenghtens and stretches the very muscle groups, the back of the thighs, the hip flexors, the lower and the shoulders, that tend to become tightened during Spinning, says Kimberly Fowler, the founder of YAS Yoga and Spinning center in Venice California. www.go2yas.com "Yoga also teaches athletes to breathe, I always emphasis breath in my Yoga for Athletes classes" she says

What Spinning brings to yoga: "It provides a cardiovascular benefit that is hard to achieve with yoga alone" Fowler says. Indeed you can burn 450-550 calories in a 40 minute class. Plus, the exercise really warms up the muscle for yoga, allowing students to sink deeper into poses. Alisa Bauman Yoga Journal June, 2004 yogajournal.com
