Although many view the rise in mandatory mail order programs as a “strong hold” to help employers increase their savings and force their members to comply to a program that doesn’t increase their overall healthcare, ProCare Rx knows that mail order programs can in fact improve healthcare and reduce prescription drug costs. As with most mail order programs, ProCare Rx Pharmacy Care was designed for members who need maintenance medications for conditions such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, etc. Our mail order program is also fully integrated with our claims processing system for the retail network, which ensures customer convenience, operational efficiency and online concurrent Drug Utilization Review using claims data for all prescriptions received by the patient from multiple pharmacies and prescriptions written by all prescribing physicians. The same information files are used for eligibility. The same formulary is used as that of the retail network, and members have the same range of covered benefits. Because all retail and mail claims are adjudicated in real-time and are integrated in the same system, we are easily able to detect any drug interactions, duplicate therapies and other issues.

Depending on the member’s benefits, the mail order program could offer larger days supply and/or savings on co-payments. In addition, the mail order program also offers members convenient delivery and easy Internet access for refill requests. ProCare Rx believes timeliness and efficiency are synonymous to providing quality services. In order to accomplish this goal, we have developed a system that provides multiple quality assurance checks by professional pharmacists. We pride ourselves on the fact that our mail order facility’s dispensing error rate is almost nonexistent. The actual 2003 rate of error was 0.003%, which is considered excellent in the industry. Furthermore, the compilation of information received indicates that 99.8% of the “clean” mail order prescriptions were sent out the same day or the next day, well within our compliance requirements for turn around time.

Although ProCare Rx Pharmacy Care does not provide face-to-face contact with the members that retail pharmacies do, we retain the same high quality customer service as our national retail pharmacy network. Seasoned professionals on our help desk, and a clinical pharmacists’ team are available to assist members, physicians, pharmacies and clients 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year through our combined efforts with the retail help desk and our mail order help desk. If for any reason a prescription is delayed beyond the normal turnaround time or lost in the mail, ProCare Rx Pharmacy Care will authorize a retail pharmacy to refill the prescription. We are willing to reimburse the member for any additional costs associated with service delays.

ProCare Rx Pharmacy Care knows that if plan participants are provided with an easy and convenient method to receive their prescriptions, then they will be more likely to follow their therapies. Therefore, we provide our clients and their plan participants with easy access to our mail service program via telephone, fax and the Internet. In addition, we evaluate our clients’ population to help them determine the high utilization members and target them through mailings and incentives to encourage their compliance. Our mail order pharmacists are dedicated to contacting the plan participants to assist them in the transition from the retail to mail order program, or to assist them with refill information.
