On Nov. 17, 2003, the chief executive officers of Storz & Bickel Gmbh & Co., Markus Storz and Jergun Bickel), accepted the Dr. Rudolph Eberle Prize for innovation in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. The prize is awarded annually (since 1985) to small- and medium-sized businesses in the region that have implemented outstanding technological innovations. The prize committee used the criteria of technical progress, special entrepreneurial achievement and the economic success of the innovation in making its decision to select the Volcano as one of 18 winners from a field of 104 products/companies.

The Eberle Prize was handed out to the young CEOs, Storz and Bickel, by Dr. Walter Döring, Minister of Economic Affairs and Vice Minister-President of the State of Baden-Württemberg, during a special ceremony at Stuttgart's House of Commerce. The company's special entrepreneurial achievement distinguished itself by applying an idea, registering international patents and building a new company from the ground up. From the very beginning, Mr. Storz and Mr. Bickel pursued an Internet-driven, international corporate strategy so that more than 80% of their business is conducted with exports using Internet tools and taking advantage of the European Union´s accommodating commercial framework. This year the company reportedly more than doubled its sales.

The Volcano is manufactured in Tuttlingen, a town in Southern Germany regarded internationally as the center of medical technology development and manufacturing. It is sold in the United States through an agreement with Slide4less.com and its subsidiaries, as well as other US impoters.
