GPCR-directed drug discovery shows tremendous potential

GPCR-directed drug discovery is in its infancy, with product sales of compounds targeting known GPCRs exceeding $30 billion-newly discovered orphan GPCRs have tremendous potential!
G Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) have proven to be a highly amenable target class to successful therapeutic intervention. Of the approximate 500 drugs currently marketed, more than 30% are modulators of GPCR function. By 2000, 26 of the top 100 pharmaceutical products were compounds that target GPCRs, accounting for sales of over $23.5 billion. This represents a growing figure of approximately 9% of total global pharmaceutical sales.

GPCRs: The Targets of Today's Drugs and Tomorrow's Blockbusters Market Analysis Report will benefit those companies requiring an objective analysis of the technical, commercial, and legal and patent aspects of the GPCR pharmaceutical class. Further, this Report provides thorough profiles of those companies currently active within the GPCR space, in addition to exclusive discussions with four industry professionals engaged in GPCRs.

The completion of the genome and proteome projects are proving to be a driving force for the growing role of GPCRs in drug discovery. These projects have yielded a trove of putative GPCRs with unknown functions and ligands, better known as "orphan GPCRs." Given that nearly 70% of all drugs currently marketed worldwide are targeted against GPCRs, these latest findings are causing this target class to undergo a "rebirth." Clearly there is enormous potential to validate these "orphan GPCRs" as drug targets and reap the benefits of the blockbuster drugs of tomorrow.

Unique Benefits of This Report:
Identify viable technology drivers through a detailed analysis of the developmental and applicatory technological trends within GPCRs
Discover feasible market opportunities via a thorough assessment of the commercial landscape of GPCRs, including past and present activities, as well as future expectations
Avoid legal ramifications by learning about the various laws governing the GPCR space that are critical to making accurate business decisions
Gain reliable insight into the GPCR space from unique interviews with four industry authorities
Focus on the primary companies engaged in GPCRs with in-depth profiles of their technologies, financial and partnering activities, pipelines, and more.
