INSIDE THE MIND OF FITNESS

, Surgeon General David Satcher hit the American public with a startling revelation. Striking right at the “gut” of the matter, he officially declared obesity to be a national epidemic. Since then, despite Herculean efforts to combat the problem, the percentage of overweight and obese Americans continues to rise. Obviously, a new approach is necessary if the U.S. is to overcome its stigma as the “fattest nation on earth.”

Perhaps the most curious piece in this weight loss puzzle is the fact that 65% of the population struggle with excess pounds while the other 35% manage to maintain a healthy weight, seemingly without effort. It makes perfect sense, then, to assume that the key to obesity’s solution lies in this minority’s methodology.

No one understands this weight loss conundrum better than Al Smith, a fitness trainer who overcame his own obesity struggle seven years ago. Fed up with the battle of the bulge, Al decided to combat his problem once and for all. After years of trial and error, delving into those secrets that keep 35% of the nation’s population fit and trim, he finally hit upon a winning combination.
