Consumers Advancing Patient Safety Launches Online Networking Resource

Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS) now offers an online resource at www.patientsafety.org where patients and healthcare providers can share information and collaborate to make patient care safer.

CAPS enables patients to shape regulatory and governmental policy and influence legislation by helping to bring the consumer voice and perspective to healthcare safety issues
"The CAPS web site is an essential tool to build a global network of consumer partners working to improve the safety of medicine," says CAPS Executive Director Mitchell Dvorak. "Membership in CAPS is free, and allows individuals to stay informed on the latest in consumer-centered patient safety policy, research and educational initiatives."

The site links CAPS members with a global network of consumers, healthcare providers, policymakers, researchers and others committed to a partnership approach to improving the safety of healthcare.

"CAPS enables patients to shape regulatory and governmental policy and influence legislation by helping to bring the consumer voice and perspective to healthcare safety issues," Dvorak explains.

The CAPS web site includes a discussion board to facilitate networking, a shared file repository and resources including tools, articles, books, reports and links to other patient safety organizations.

"The site also includes success stories showing how individuals have brought about change through grassroots activities," adds Dvorak. "And there are open discussions of successes and failures in the health care system aimed at learning from shared experience."

Visit the CAPS web site at
www.patientsafety.org.

CAPS was formed in 2002 to serve as a collective voice for individuals, families and healers who wish to prevent harm in health care through partnership and collaboration. Its vision is to create a partnership between consumers and healthcare providers aimed at creating global healthcare systems that are safe, compassionate and just.
