Dr. Gozna Goes Online with MSOlineTraining for Medical Certification

Eric Gozna is a professional engineer who has practiced orthopedic surgery for over a quarter of a century. He’s not only taken the time to learn and practice medicine, he also has a passion for teaching. Over the past five years alone, he’s delivered over 200 seminars to family physicians, physiotherapists, other health professionals, and members of the insurance and legal professions. He has lectured in Canada, USA, Great Britain and Australia.

Now, he’s offering his experience and expertise over the Internet. MSOnlineTraining.com the training arm of DrGozna.com went live May 2, 2006. The web site offers medical certification training using multimedia courseware from award-winning developer Engage Interactive. The site currently offers one course, Third Party Medicine: Principles and Pitfalls and has a second course following soon.

“Over the past 27 years I have lectured extensively to physicians and allied health care professionals on musculoskeletal and disability management issues,” said Dr. Gozna. “About two years ago I became aware that it was possible to give the same course content to a much larger audience, at any time, using the Internet as a delivery vehicle. Hence the creation of msonlinetraining.com.”

It was a three-part process: build the drgozna.com web site where Dr. Gozna offers a wide variety of service as a consultant in orthopedic surgery, a lecturer, a biomedical engineer and an independent medical examiner in addition his online courseware offerings. Next came the development of the MS Online Training site.

“We tried to make the site into an easily navigable online school,” said Engage Interactive web developer Brad Parks. “You can demo the courses, selected certification preferences, purchase the course and take it.”

Dr. Gozna has two textbooks and more than 40 scientific and clinical publications and presentations to his name. He is on faculty at Dalhousie University in Halifax NS, Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland and is honorary Research Associate at the Biomedical Engineering Institute of the University of New Brunswick. In 1992 Dr. Gozna was the recipient of the Dalhousie University Lea C. Steeves Award for Excellence in Teaching.

“Working with Dr. Gozna has been a wonderful experience,” said Jeff Maston, VP of Software Development at Engage. “Most of our custom courseware clients know the information they want to have in their courses and rely on our instructional designers to turn it into a learning experience. But Dr. Gozna is a gifted educator who gave us material matched, and may even have exceeded, our own standards for teaching excellence.”

“The courseware developed for Third Party Medicine features multimedia elements such as audio and animation along with highly interactive questions that place the instructional material in practical, real-world situations, and a compelling visual interface with easy-to-use navigation,” said Marketing Manager Thomas Mitchell. “This is state-of-the-art software – the kind that has won Engage repeat awards for Best Educational Product. But the courses we’re designing for Dr. Gozna go beyond what we’ve done in the past.”

“The main obstacle we addressed was to allow interaction and feedback so that the courses could evolve and grow,” said Dr. Gozna. “We did this with interactive Q and A's throughout the course, an exam at the end, the opportunity to e-mail the lecturer and, after taking the course, the ability to evaluate it and make suggestions.”
