An Insider's View of Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia is not about fear. It is about terror - sourceless, faceless terror. People do not hide in their homes for years at a time because they are afraid. They hide because they are paralyzed with terror,” said author Katherine Rabenau, “because they are so panic stricken that they can't breathe or think, and because the enemy has no name or clear identity that allows for negotiation or even confrontation.”

With remarkable directness and honesty, the author describes what agoraphobia feels like and explores what she believes to be the underpinnings of this devastating condition. At the same time, she provides information on a wide variety of approaches to unlocking the doors that trap agoraphobics into constricted and painful lives. While this book offers a very real picture of what agoraphobia is like, it also offers hope.

Katherine Rabenau shares an extensive collection of poignant and powerful essays in this deeply personal and insightful look into the world of agoraphobia and it’s healing. Based on a series of articles written by Ms. Rabenau and published 2001-2003, this compilation offers an inspiring and expansive inner view of one person's journey through the maze of a profoundly isolating and paralyzing psychological condition that eclipses the lives of many.

The book provides helpful and practical information and resources for those struggling with agoraphobia as well as cultivating a greater understanding of the disability for those they share their lives with. Katherine Rabenau is an accomplished writer, poet, editor, reiki master and teacher in New York. Her new book is testimony to the passion and strength of the human spirit regardless of the obstacles and to the beauty underlying our fragility
