Luxtron Introduces New MR-compatible Temperature Probes

Luxtron Corporation, the leading provider of fiber optic and optical temperature measurement solutions to medical, industrial, semiconductor, optoelectronics, and electric power industries announces the introduction of a new line of medical probes suitable for temperature measurement in magnetic resonance (MR) environments.

Designed with input from medical professionals who wanted a probe with more protection and stiffness for biomedical applications, this new line of MR-compatible probes uses Luxtron’s patented fiber optic technology, used daily by medical professionals Worldwide in MRI monitoring, ultrasound and microwave hyperthermia, RF ablation, and implant testing. This expanded line of probes provides users with choices in diameter, stiffness and response time, thus enabling broader application and improved ergonomics.

Luxtron’s biomedical probes are 100% non-metallic, protected by Tefzel® jacketing and easily sterilized. In addition to this new line of MR-compatible probes, for clinical applications Luxtron currently offers a 0.5mm diameter probe designed for minimally invasive surgeries. These probes can be used with Luxtron’s FDA 510(k) classified m3300 Biomedical Lab Kit, FOT Lab Kit, or the I652 Industrial Monitor.

Luxtron’s patented Fluoroptic technology features fiber optic-based probes with a temperature-sensitive phosphorescent material. These fiber optic probes are immune to RF, microwave and high magnetic fields enabling highly accurate and precise measurements unattainable with conventional sensors like thermistors, thermocouples (TCs) and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs). In addition, because Luxtron’s MR-compatible probes are entirely non-metallic, they do not heat up or cause charring of the tissue during RF or microwave treatments.
