April 16, 2005 -- "This is a fictional story that, in part, includes the development of a pathogen in 1921 that attacks the human immune system like HIV. If you buy into conspiracies, you might believe some of it,” said the author. “For me it was just a really great idea to build a story around, so I took it to the next level.
