Cancer Treatment Centers of America Expands Integrative Care Delivery Model to East Coast

Chicago, IL  September 22, 2004 -- Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) today announced its purchase of the Parkview Hospital site on Philadelphia's Northeast Side from a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE:THC). Financial terms of the purchase were not disclosed. CTCA's expansion to the East Coast brings to Northeastern cancer patients its unique cancer treatment model that integrates traditional and cutting-edge medical treatments, technologies and research with science-based complementary medicine.

Positive Economic Impact
CTCA will immediately begin an estimated $44 million renovation of the 273,848-square-foot-facility for an October 2005 opening.

According to Robert Mayo, Vice Chairman of CTCA, "The new hospital facility will create multiple employment and economic opportunities that will infuse a minimum of $6 million into the local economy in its first year alone, and over $22 million in the fifth year." Mr. Mayo added the new hospital will create 135 jobs in its opening year. Within three years, CTCA projects the new hospital will grow to accommodate approximately 310 medical and administrative staff members.

CTCA, which already attracts cancer patients from all over the country, anticipates patients from the East Coast will travel to its Philadelphia facility to take advantage of the hospital's integrative treatment options.

"CTCA's acquisition of Parkview Hospital will fill the economic and social void left in our community as well as create jobs that will substantially elevate the local economy. I am excited about the many benefits CTCA will bring to our community," said Senator Christine M. Tartaglione (2nd Senatorial District).

"I am also enthusiastic that CTCA, a nationally-renowned and respected company, will be investing in our local economy when it opens its new facility here in Philadelphia," said Councilman Darrell Clarke (5th District).

Cutting-Edge Cancer Care Delivery Model
CTCA is in the process of recruiting top regional medical talent from all over the country to expand its integrative treatment and care model for cancer patients.

"Serving the greater Philadelphia community, an area respected for its commitment to cancer research and health care innovation, will enable us to deliver our patient empowering model of care and to provide the most powerful and innovative therapies to heal the whole person, improve the quality of life and restore hope for people living with cancer," said Steve Bonner, President and Chief Executive Officer of CTCA.

CTCA is proud to be one of the only systems in the country where top medical oncologists work side-by-side with on-staff nutritionists, mind-body therapists, naturopathic physicians, physical therapists and spiritual support.

"The Philadelphia region will benefit substantially from the innovative cancer treatment model provided by CTCA," said Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA). "Cancer is such a devastating disease. I'm pleased that one of the country's leading cancer treatment hospitals will be in our back yard to deliver quality, compassionate, and integrative cancer care to our region's patients and their families. This unique care model will be available to patients from all over the eastern seaboard."

The 78,000-square-foot medical office building connected to the hospital accommodating several prominent physician practices across multiple disciplines will remain intact and undisturbed throughout the renovation process. "We're committed to provide the best possible facility for our current and future tenants in the adjacent medical office building," Bonner said.

Premier Building Team
Award-winning Gresham, Smith and Partners, a Nashville-based architectural firm with a 35-year history in health care design, was selected to design the new hospital. The firm also designed CTCA's new hospital that is under construction in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Partnering with Gresham, Smith and Partners is L.F. Driscoll Co., the largest and highly-rated locally-based construction management company in the Philadelphia region.

CTCA Network
The CTCA network is headquartered in Arlington Heights, Ill., and operates hospitals in Zion, Ill. and Tulsa, Okla., as well as a clinical practice in Seattle, Wash. CTCA programs and facilities have received accreditation, approval or certification from the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) -- the nation's predominant standards setting and accrediting body in health care -- the American College of Surgeons, the College of American Pathology, and the American College of Radiology.
