Brian Baldwin, Baxa Corporation Founder, Recognized as Medical Device Industry Pioneer

Englewood, CO September 17, 2004 -- Brian Baldwin, founder and Chairman Emeritus of Colorado-based Baxa Corporation is featured as a medical device industry pioneer in the August 2004 issue of Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry. The profile, part of the 25th Anniversary Issue, recognizes Baldwin for his impact on early medical device development.

A career in product development with American Hospital Supply Corporation led to Baldwin's first business venture, MPL, Inc., which he founded with Northwestern fraternity brother Bill Cook, making hypodermic needles for medical applications. Ten years later, Baldwin founded Solopak Laboratories, which produced prefilled syringes and small-volume injectables. He subsequently founded K-Tube Corporation, which produced small-bore stainless steel tube, Armor-Tech, Baldwin and Cook, and APS, a Danish corporation that produced hypodermic needles.

In 1975, Brian founded Baxa Corporation, his current business. Baxa manufactures and markets syringes for precision oral liquid administration, microprocessor-controlled peristaltic pumps for medication preparation, devices for safe handling of IV admixtures, and computer-controlled mixing systems for IV solutions to hospitals and alternate-care facilities worldwide. The company focuses on fluid drug delivery systems and the management of drug handling in healthcare systems.

Baxa Corporation, with 275 employees, is a family-owned business headquartered in metro Denver. Baldwin's sons serve as CEO and COO, while he acts as Chairman Emeritus, working on business development projects.

Brian Baldwin holds more than 30 US and International patents. He is listed in Who's Who in Medicine, and was one of the founders of the Colorado Medical Device Association and its first President. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Medical Device Manufacturer's Association, the Advisory Board of the University of Colorado, Denver, Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, and the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy Advisory Board. Baldwin is an active member of World President's Organization, a prior member of Young President's Organization, and a member of The Economic Club of Colorado.
